Studio | Fall 2019 UNIT-Y is a mixed use project, bringing 180 housing units, communal shared spaces, and major public programs to Long Island City, Queens. By recognizing the historical significance of industry, transportation, and floodplains in the area, UNIT-Y presents a transformative future for LIC as a hub of connected living, small business, and waterfront experience. On the inside, a central atrium brings light and air to all units. From the outside, units shift to provide different moments of exposure and privacy. A new metro station along NYC’s E and M lines, inhabited landscape berm, and business spaces provide new connectivity as well as long-term economic and environmental sustainability to the Long Island City neighborhood. Collaboration with Geena Kribs.
